Grand Prize Received at the 14th Japan HR Challenge Awards
Tokyo Electron (TEL) and Tokyo Electron FE received the Grand Prize at the 14th Japan HR Challenge Awards for Seeker. This AI-based application Seeker encourages employees to acquire relevant skills and contribute to the company. The awards program is sponsored by the Japan HR Challenge Awards Executive Committee and supported by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, among others. Operating under the slogan, “Valiant challenges in the HR field invigorate Japanese society,” the program recognizes companies that actively pursue innovative human resources initiatives.
Reasons for the Honor (Excerpt from materials released by the Japan HR Challenge Awards)
TEL’s groundbreaking initiative uses AI to systematically organize career-related information, including job descriptions, required skills, and various career trajectory permutations, within the company. It allows employees to envision their future and trace their career paths backward from their goals to the present. Once the company’s career information and training programs are entered into the AI system, it shows employees which skill sets and programs are optimal for achieving their goals. Employees who used the system scored significantly higher on the company’s learning and career opportunity surveys, indicating increased engagement. These results contributed to the initiative’s positive overall evaluation.
About Seeker and Its Deployment
Global competition is intensifying, and technology is advancing rapidly in the semiconductor production equipment industry where TEL operates. In response, TEL has developed Seeker, a web application that serves as a unique medium- to long-term solution for human resource development. Seeker systematically organizes career-related information and visually represents the various career paths within the company. Using AI, the system organizes and analyzes job descriptions and skill-learning opportunities for different positions. Employees can interact with the system to identify the necessary skills and available resources to achieve their career goals. Seeker can also recommend the optimal tools and mentors for each employee’s skill development needs.
At TEL, we believe that “our corporate growth is enabled by people,” and our employees both create and fulfill company values. When individual employees are inspired and motivated to work, the company’s overall productivity improves, resulting in mutual growth for the company and its employees.
