Tokyo Electron Kyushu (TKL) engages in groundwater conservation through the recharging of rice field groundwater from November to March, as part of its environmental preservation activities.
TKL uses approximately 400,000 m3 of groundwater annually for its business, and through this activity, the equivalent amount of groundwater used is returned to nature.
In the same rice field, TKL holds a rice planting event in June and a hands-on rice harvesting event in October.
About 50 employees and their families planted rice saplings in about 600 m2 of the rice field in the town of Ozu and also participated in the rice harvesting. The children struggled with the use of sickles, which they were not familiar with, but they worked hard and had fun harvesting the rice. They were able to enjoy eating the rice they harvested, and the series of experiences from rice planting also served as a valuable food education experience.
TKL will continue its groundwater conservation activities to protect Kumamoto's precious groundwater into the future.
