NEWEarth Day in the US

U.S.

  • Conserving the global environment
  • Co-creation with communities

Since April 20th, 1970, Earth Day has been celebrated in the United States as a movement that gives a voice to an emerging consciousness of channeling human energy toward environmental issues. This year commemorates 49 years of commitment to inspire and ignite passion, challenge ideas, and motivate people to take action in protecting Earth.

TEL is committed to lowering its carbon footprint and advocating for all employees to take part in activities that align with TEL’s sustainability efforts. For this reason, on Earth Day 2019, TEL U.S. locations across the region found creative ways to participate in this nationally celebrated day. Some activities included:

◾Reduce car emissions – Employees chose to walk, take public transit, or carpool to work
◾Paper-free day – Finding creative ways to avoid printing for the entire day
◾Utilize reusable plastic ware – Eliminate single-use plastic from the office
◾Use natural light – Opening window blinds and limiting the use of overhead lighting
◾Educate yourself – Researching how to continue lowering your carbon footprint everyday

Some offices in the U.S. arranged group activities for their locations to participate in for Earth Day.

For example, the TEL office in Albany, NY, TTCA, planted a flowering cherry tree at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute. This is the 6th tree TEL has planted on the campus and is a symbol of the continued partnership between TEL and the University.

The TEL office in Chaska, MN celebrated Earth Day by holding a garage sale to help clean up spaces and provide a way to reuse materials that may have otherwise been thrown into landfills. Also, employees in Chaska took time to plant perennials and clean up areas around the campus.

In Austin, TX, it is an annual Earth Day event to plant a tree on the TEL- Austin campus. The trees chosen are either native to the Texas region or are sustainable in the climate.

All year long TEL is working to improve efficiency and become more environmentally friendly, and Earth Day in the U.S. is always a great way to celebrate the great outdoors and inspire earth friendly practices.
