The domestic manufacturing sites of Tokyo Electron (TEL) offer work experience programs every year to help develop human resources and contribute to local communities. Over two days on November 8 and 9, 2023, three male second year students from Taiwa Junior High School were welcomed by Tokyo Electron Miyagi as trial interns for the junior high school work experience learning program.

Students designed chairs using a three-dimensional computer-aided design (3D CAD) system, went on a factory tour of the clean room among other facilities, and experienced virtual reality (VR) related to equipment and safety as well as various real-life jobs pertaining to manufacturing, such as entry and dispatch logistics operations.

TEL believes that this experiential learning allowed students to understand the mindset involved in becoming a working member of society, along with the challenges, enjoyment, and satisfaction at work.

Students who participated made comments such as “I felt like an engineer designing a sturdy chair using 3D CAD, it was a lot of fun!” and “It was really interesting learning about the shape of components and other things. I was able to understand the products made by Tokyo Electron Miyagi!,” proving that the program gave them a sense of affinity to the local company.

TEL hopes that the work experience will offer the students an opportunity to understand the mindset involved in working, and that it will serve as a catalyst as they consider their future careers.
