As a part of its efforts to cultivate forests and preserve the environment, Tokyo Electron Miyagi has been conducting tree planting activities (tree planting project) since 2017 in “Tokyo Electron Forest,” which is an area of about 4.2 hectares of prefectural woodland in Taiwa-cho, Miyagi Prefecture.

On November 16 of 2024, a total of 63 participants, including employees and invited family members, planted cherry blossom and dogwood saplings (370 saplings over seven years, including sawtooth oak, dogwood and Prunus speciosa).

Children engaged not only in tree planting and enrichment planting, but also in removing unwanted trees (clearing bamboo grass), maintaining trails, installing birdhouses, and searching for fish. Children also took part in activities such as cliff climbing with ropes, wreath making and nature crafts, and their laughter and joy could be heard throughout the forest.

The adult group engaged in actual forest maintenance, such as sorting out dead trees and moving logs.

After eight years of these activities, the forest, which was previously covered with dead trees before maintenance began, is showing signs of restoration and has been transformed to resemble a well-maintained park with walking trails.

In addition to the landscape, the number of shrimp, cybisters, butterflies, and dragonflies in the ponds and puddles has also increased, demonstrating the activities’ contribution to biodiversity.

“Tokyo Election Forest” is steadily being developed into a wonderful space where families can enjoy walking.
