Tokyo Electron (TEL) generally conducts a bake sale every month at the Fuchu office cafeteria as part of its commitment to supporting employment for people with disabilities. The pastries, which include cookies and pound cakes, are produced at Tokyo Covenant Church Nozomien*.

The Nozomien Bake Sale is a hit every time, and while many employees come to purchase their products, this year, it was held during the Group-wide DE&I Week. Along with the bake sale, a summary of interviews about the facility’s users, their motivation behind making pastries, understanding the characteristics of users and how work is divided, the secret to the deliciousness of their parties and their everyday schedules among other things, was uploaded onto the company’s intranet.

According to the stories collected, the secrets to the high quality of the products are, “Dividing up work according to the characteristics of the users, carefully selecting ingredients from supporters, and above all, the attitude of pouring the heart into the products.” This particularly left an impression.

Many employees who purchased the products have commented, “Bringing Nozomien pastries home makes my family happy,” “They’re delicious!” etc., indicating that it is part of a motivating positive cycle.

Knowing the background behind the users, instead of simply buying them because they are tasty, proved to be an opportunity to deepen the understanding of employment for people with disabilities.

TEL will continue to support welfare activities for the community going forward.
