Since 2014, the Tohoku Office of Tokyo Electron Technology Solutions (TTS) has been a main sponsor of the championships, which are held across Iwate Prefecture with the aim of promoting the healthy development of elementary school students in the prefecture and popularizing the 3x3 basketball game. This year marks the 11th time since the championships have been held.
The championships have become an annual summer event, with 48 boys’ and 48 girls’ teams from eight districts in the prefecture competing after advancing through regional qualifiers. Each team of three players battled fiercely on half-courts for six-minute matches.
This year saw a record-breaking 298 teams participating in the qualifiers, reflecting the growing popularity of the sport and its increasing recognition.
It was very striking to see the determination of the players, as they continued to trust their teammates and pass the ball to them and repeatedly attempted shots, never giving up until the final moments.
As part of the championship’s customary events, the free throw competition filled the venue with nail-biting excitement, while the prize draw brought smiles to the faces of the players who won championships-related goods and famous confectionery in the prefecture.
TTS will continue to support local events.
