Tokyo Electron Technology Solutions (TTS) has been holding an event called Let’s Go Local as part of its initiatives to support the local communities.
The aim of the event is to support local retailers and others that were affected by decreased sales and voluntary closures due to the spread of COVID-19.
The initiative encouraged long-term support, as purchasing vouchers for designated retailers were distributed to employees who wished to use them, which led to increased sales when employees used the vouchers at the stores, and in turn led to employees becoming repeat customers.
The event, which began with the purpose of supporting the local communities, targets a wide variety of retailers, such as bakeries, shops that sell Western confectionaries, Japanese sweets, side dishes, and rice balls, as well as local JA farmers’ markets (selling local fruits and vegetables). The event was held a total of 13 times over the three years between 2020 and 2023, with different stores being eligible for the vouchers.
In Yamanashi Prefecture, a total of 4,931 people used the vouchers in 50 stores, and in Iwate Prefecture, 3,240 people used the vouchers in 42 stores.
TTS is motivated by the letters of gratitude from several retailers that took part in the event about the sustainable support they receive, as TTS employees continue to frequent the stores even after the event ended.
While there was a long period when people refrained from going out during the pandemic, this event provided a good opportunity for employees to discover the great stores in their local communities, and they have commented that they look forward to the event each time.
TTS will continue to conduct initiatives that lead to local revitalization.
