Each February, TEL Technology Center, America (TTCA) has the pleasure of hosting students from Tech Valley High School, as part of their I-Term program. During the program, regular coursework pauses and students work closely with a mentor to create unique, rigorous and applied learning experiences in search of their Ikigai: A Japanese concept meaning one’s “reason for being.” An ikigai is the intersection between what one loves, is good at, can be paid for, and what is needed in the world.

During this period, students attend field trips that expose them to a plethora of careers, concluding with a day full of presentations from every student.

This year, from February 5th to the 16th, TTCA hosted thirty freshmen and spoke to students about semiconductors, TEL’s major role in the industry, and what daily life looks like at TTCA. Additionally, TTCA hosted three upperclassmen for a more in-depth, career shadowing opportunity.

Along with directly shadowing TEL engineers, TTCA created some unique opportunities for students to learn more about the industry and life at TEL. Students were invited to participate in parts of our new employee onboarding program and meet with our local internship coordinator to discuss future opportunities. A highlight of the week was a pilot program developed by our Field Service Team onsite in Albany.

TTCA continues to partner with Tech Valley High School for a number of programs including Camp Innovation, FIRST Robotics Competition Team, FIRST LEGO League and others. These programs serve as a way for TTCA to play a key role in developing the next generations of the TEL workforce.
