NEWTMEA Wellness Apiary Project

U.S.

  • Conserving the global environment
  • Co-creation with communities

The idea for the TEL Manufacturing and Engineering of America (TMEA) Wellness Apiary began in June 2022 on a trip to the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, down the road from TMEA's Chaska, MN location. The trip was organized by Software Engineer and Head Beekeeper, David Lura. Since then, the project has gained interest and made significant progress toward two productive hives.

In the United States, bee populations have steadily declined over the last few decades due to pesticides, parasites and habitat loss.
Bees are responsible for the pollination of 80% of flowering plants and over $15B in agricultural products each year, including over 130 types of fruits, nuts and vegetables. Bees also provide food for wildlife, maintain soil health and keep water clean.

Companies that keep bees have direct links to health and productivity. Data shows that companies that include views and elements of nature (such as TMEA’s beehives) lead to:
1. Fewer sick days
2. Increased productivity
3. Higher job satisfaction
4. Improved quality of life
5. Higher creativity
6. Increased engagement across departments
