Tokyo Electron (TEL) celebrates the 15th anniversary of TEL Technology Center, America (TTCA) at SUNY Polytechnic Institute

Albany, NY – July 16, 2018 – This year, Tokyo Electron (TEL) celebrates the 15th anniversary of TEL Technology Center, America (TTCA). TTCA was founded in 2003 with support such as the State of New York, SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly), and it acts as TEL’s R&D center in U.S.

TTCA’s R&D projects support next-generation semiconductor manufacturing processes as well as the equipment needed by leading chip manufacturers worldwide. Today, TTCA celebrates this milestone at the Albany NanoTech Complex in New York.

Our many successes and accomplishments over the last 15 years are the direct result of the tireless work of our employees,” said Tony Kawai, TEL President & CEO. “We have built one of the most capable and accomplished semiconductor R&D teams anywhere in the industry. This is their celebration, and we thank them for their many contributions.”

TTCA is a partner of SUNY Poly’s Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE). This partnership, between industry and academia, includes work with SUNY Poly faculty such as Interim Dean of the College of Nanoscale Science and Empire Innovation Professor of Nanoscale Science Dr. Alain Diebold, who has collaborated with TEL for more than ten years on cutting-edge R&D. Overall, the partnership is leading to the shared success of future advancements in the semiconductor industry.

TTCA continues to be actively engaged in SUNY Poly’s world-class research and development efforts at its Albany-based fabs and now encompasses 16,000 square feet of cleanroom space and many of TEL tools with full flow integrated processing and patterning capabilities, complemented by more than 18,000 square feet of office space, which has doubled in size since the program’s inception.

On the future of TTCA, TEL President & CEO Kawai predicts, “The world’s insatiable appetite for data will continue to fuel unprecedented growth for the semiconductor industry. Meeting this demand spurs the ongoing technological innovation that occurs at TTCA every day. TEL will support to scale CMOS processes and features to their atomic limits while pushing our exploration further into the realm of neuromorphic structures, novel materials, and quantum engineering.”
