Response to the earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan (as of 7:00 p.m., April 26)
Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) would like to express its deepest sympathy to all who have been affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto. We have been communicating the status of TEL group’s operations in Kumamoto regularly since the earthquake occurred on April 16. The latest report is as follows:
1. State of employees
TEL group employees at Koshi and Ozu Plants in Kumamoto basically returned to work as usual on April 25.
2. Situation of plants
Construction experts inspected our main plant at Koshi, confirming that the buildings' ability to withstand earthquakes was unimpaired, and that there was no major impact on the production facilities.
As for the Ozu Plant, we are going to conduct safety checks and examine the impact on the facilities in due course. However, our immediate priority is to resume normal operations at the Koshi Plant, which will significantly contribute to production.
3. Outlook of operations
The Koshi Plant partially resumed its operations on April 25. We currently estimate that the production schedule will be pushed back by four weeks or so. However, we plan on compensating for the delay as much as possible by adjusting work shifts so we can also operate during weekends and holidays including Golden Week in Japan, which will bring back the production schedule to normal by the end of June.
At the same time, we will speed up the installation of our equipment at our customers' sites.
4. Impact on business
As announced on April 22, the release of our financial forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017 has been rescheduled for May 12, to allow for in-depth business impact assessments of the earthquake.
