Response to the earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan(as of 5:00 p.m. on April 20)
Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) would like to express its deepest sympathy to all who have been affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto. We also appreciate the concern of many people about our offices and employees in this area.
TEL is doing everything in its power to respond to the earthquakes, which mainly occurred in the early hours of April 16 and are still continuing to affect Kumamoto and neighboring prefectures. The current situation of the TEL group operations in Kumamoto is as follows:
1. Safety of employees
We have confirmed that all TEL group employees at the Koshi Plant and the Ozu Plant in Kumamoto are unharmed. On April 21, some employees who prepare for restoring the plants and resuming production will begin returning to work.
2. Situation of plants
An inspection of our main plant at Koshi was performed by experts, and no major damage to the buildings and facilities was found. As for infrastructures for supplying water, electricity, and gas, inspection is still ongoing in part, although they are expected to present few problems for the employees who will report to work tomorrow onwards and in our efforts to resume operations.
As for the Ozu Plant, we are going to conduct safety checks and examine the impact on the facilities in due course.
3. Outlook of operations
Based on the state of production facilities at the Koshi Plant, we expect that we will be able to resume operations in stages starting on April 25. We will continue to check how the supply chain as a whole is affected, and take necessary steps to bring operations back to normal levels.
4. Impact on business
At present, we expect no major impact from this earthquake on the consolidated financial results for the fiscal year, ended March 31, 2017. We will promptly disclose details if any material impact were to be predicted.
