Response to the earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan(as of 5:00 p.m. on April 18)
Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) would like to express its deepest sympathy to all who have been affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto. We also appreciate the concern of many people about our offices and employees in this area.
TEL is doing everything in its power to respond to the earthquakes, which mainly occurred in the early hours of April 16 and are still continuing to affect Kumamoto and neighboring prefectures.
As of 5:00 p.m. on April 18, the situation of the TEL group sites in Kumamoto is as follows:
1. Safety of employees
We have confirmed that all TEL group employees at the Koshi Plant and the Ozu Plant in Kumamoto are unharmed.
2. Situation of plants
There is no visible major damage to the main plant which is at Koshi. In order to ensure safety before resuming operations, our experts will carefully check the buildings over the next several days.
3. Prospect of operations
Since the plants will undergo safety checks as mentioned above, operations will be suspended for this week. Whether or not operations will restart on or after April 25 will be decided after the conditions of the buildings' interior and facilities have been ascertained.
TEL group's further responses to the earthquake will be announced at appropriate timing as we learn more about the situation.
