Tohoku Production and Logistics Center
A Hybrid Hub Integrating Manufacturing and Distribution Functions

Culture

The Tokyo Electron Technology Solutions Tohoku Production and Logistics Center, newly established in Ōshū City, Iwate Prefecture, is a hybrid logistics facility that combines manufacturing and logistics functions. It aims to enhance efficiency in production and logistics and to achieve digital transformation (DX) in manufacturing in the future.

Aims of the Construction of the Tohoku Production and Logistics Center

The Tohoku Production and Logistics Center consolidates subcontract manufacturing sites and material warehouses located nationwide into one location. By unifying the widely spread logistics network, it enables storage, delivery, and assembly of sub-assembly parts to be completed at a single site. Moreover, it promotes digitalization and automation throughout the entire process, leading to significant productivity improvements.

In addition to supporting business growth expected from the expanding semiconductor market, the center reduces overall logistics costs and greatly lowers CO2 emissions through more efficient logistics.

Key Features of the Tohoku Production and Logistics Center

1.Consolidation of Production Sites

By centralizing production facilities, we have shortened and streamlined delivery routes, reduced the number of truck shipments, cut warehouse rental costs, and achieved labor savings.

2.Expansion of In-House Manufacturing

Through supplier consolidation, we have significantly shortened logistics lead times and built a system capable of responding flexibly to sudden production fluctuations.

3.Logistics Innovation

Equipped with high-density storage, high throughput, and flexible multi-robot systems, the center handles massive volumes of incoming and outgoing goods in sync with production changes. The logistics area— including the truck yard — is fitted with large ceiling fans to maintain a comfortable working environment in both extreme heat and severe cold.

4.Realizing a Smart Factory

Looking ahead, we plan to introduce automated warehouses. By leveraging data collection and utilization, we aim to achieve manufacturing operations conducted by AI-powered autonomous robots.

Realizing DX Transformation in Manufacturing

Traditionally, picking and other in-and-out warehouse tasks were performed manually. By advancing automation, employees can dedicate more time to learning new information, generating ideas, and envisioning the future.

In the near future, the center will implement automated warehousing using multifunctional robots. This will significantly boost production capacity, enabling us to meet the growing demands of the semiconductor market for the next 20 years.

The Tohoku Production and Logistics Center not only enhances storage and operational efficiency as a warehouse and manufacturing site, but also serves as a hub driving DX transformation in manufacturing. It will play a vital role in promoting digitization initiatives across the entire TEL Group.
