Tokyo Electron U.S. Celebrates its New Headquarters in the Heart of Austin

On April 16, Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings (hereinafter TEL U.S.) hosted a grand opening event at its new U.S. headquarters at TEL | RiverSouth on the corner of Barton Springs and South 1st Street in downtown Austin, Texas.
Toshiki Kawai, Tokyo Electron President & CEO, traveled from Japan to cut the ribbon at the event, signaling a new era for the organization that has played a crucial part in the U.S. semiconductor and technology landscape for more than three decades.

“With TEL's pivotal role in the U.S. semiconductor industry, it is only fitting that our office is located in the dynamic center of Austin,” said Koki Shirai, President of Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings. “The U.S. has long been a hub for intellectual and research capital and serves as the beating heart of global technology. We are a partner and ally committed to America’s innovative tech future.”
The opening event welcomed many guests, including government officials from around Central Texas as well as TEL’s top management.

“Texas’ world-class, business-friendly policies and highly skilled workforce attract new business investments from around the world to our state,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott. “I congratulate TEL on the opening of their new headquarters building. Long a part of the Austin community, TEL’s continued growth further expands Texas’ leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and technology as we build a stronger, more prosperous Texas.”
TEL U.S. has 21 sites and employes nearly 3,500 people across the United States, with nearly 700 of those based in Austin.

We look forward to fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration as we embark on this exciting new chapter."

As the semiconductor industry is growing at a rapid pace, TEL is growing along with it, expecting to hire around 10,000 people globally over the next five years*. In order to help develop the next generation of workforce, TEL U.S. has active partnerships with universities, community colleges, and educational institutions across the country, including the University of Texas and Austin Community College, as well as military partners in terms of hiring veterans.

Over the past 10 years, TEL has invested more than $3 billion dollars into the U.S. economy, with plans to continue investing in research and development to create the new tools that will keep TEL’s technology at the leading-edge for many decades to come.

TEL U.S.’s new building is a reflection of the company’s core initiatives – a major one being sustainability. TEL | RiverSouth is one of the most energy efficient and high-performing buildings in the State of Texas and has received a SmartScore Platinum rating, the first building in Texas to earn this rating.
