Establishment of Production Site in China

Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) announces that it has decided to establish a new flat panel display (FPD) production site in Jiangsu province, China, and held an investment agreement signing today in China.

1. Site location / size
Site location: Kunshan Economic & Technical Development Zone
Area: 352,000 m2
Kunshan City, located adjacent to Shanghai, has been designated by the government as a key FPD industry promotion area. (National Industrialized Base for FPD New & Hi-tech Industry)

2. Objectives
Manufacturing of FPD production equipment and maintenance parts has been performed in Japan to date. However, with the rising demand in China for production equipment, and in order to deliver prompt response to Chinese customers, we have decided to establish a new company in the region. TEL has acquired land-use rights and will be building a plant at the Kunshan site to initially carry out regular maintenance, progressing on to equipment modification and production in addition to our current production in Japan.
We will continue the development of differentiated technology in Japan, while flexibly responding to the growing Chinese market, further enhancing our competitive position.
