Tokyo Electron Taiwan Holds North District Preliminary for 1st Robot Combat / 東京威力科創 第一屆機器人大賽 北區初賽 隆重登場

Tokyo Electron (TEL) in Hsinchu, Taiwan is hosting the TEL Taiwan Robot Combat in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary. The purpose of this event is to help students develop skills and abilities in applied machine engineering, as well as to identify promising engineering talents. TEL in Hsinchu, Taiwan held preparatory briefings at a number of university campuses across Taiwan beginning in October 2016, stirring a lot of interest. Following the Central District preliminary on November 20, the North District preliminary was held on November 27, with 24 teams from 18 universities in the North District competing against each other. The participants consisted of students of science and engineering departments, including those majoring in electric machinery, industrial management, electronics, machine engineering, mechanical and electric engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering, electrical control, mechatronics, electronic engineering, biomedical engineering and environmental science, information and communication, etc. The participants, including some overseas students from Italy and Vietnam, competed in earnest with the ultimate goal of winning NT$60,000 in cash and a robot as a prize.

In the preliminaries, the teams are first tasked to assemble and complete a robot within 70 minutes. A referee determines winning teams, who are qualified to move on to the next round held in the afternoon, which consists of a series of 3-minute one-on-one battles. After a fierce competition in the North District preliminary, the following six teams made it to the finals:

Group A: Team “A1-CCHT” from National Taiwan Ocean University

Group B: Team “Gogo Robot” from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology

Group C: Team “Phantom Limb” (幻肢) from Lunghwa University of Science and Technology

Group D: Team “Awesome” (94狂) from National Tsing Hua University

Group E: Team “NTPU-AIART” from National Taipei University

Group F: Team “Ready to Attack” (做好攻擊準備) from Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology and Jinan University

The six finalists from the North District will compete with 12 finalists from the Central and South Districts on December 17, 2016 at the National Taiwan Science Education Center.
