TEL to Acquire Plant Site in Taiwa-cho, Miyagi Prefecture

TOKYO-- Tokyo Electron (TEL), the world's second largest supplier of semiconductor production equipment (SPE), today announced the company will acquire a new plant site in Taiwa-cho in Miyagi Prefecture.

Details of the Acquisition:

Location, Area

Location: Taiwa Research Park (tentative name), Taiwa-cho, Kurokawa-gun, Miyagi Prefecture
Area: 300,000 m2

Purpose of Acquisition

Continued rapid market growth and technological innovation are expected in the semiconductor industry in which TEL conducts business. TEL also anticipates competition to become even fiercer, and consequently, securing technology development capabilities and production resources will be essential. The strategic objectives of the investment plan are to create a base that consolidates technology development and mass production capacities to achieve innovations in manufacturing, secure overwhelming technological competitiveness, and increase productivity.

Plant Construction Plan

Construction is scheduled to be completed in April 2010 (details are currently being considered).
