TEL to Begin Sales of DD400 Enterprise Series from Data Domain

TOKYO –– June 2, 2005 –– Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) announced Thursday that it will launch on June 6 sales in Japan of the DD400 Enterprise Series, a new product from Data Domain, Inc. (Head Office: Palo Alto, California, U.S.A.; President & CEO: Frank Slootman), with which TEL has concluded a distribution agreement.

Unlike conventional ATA arrays or Virtual Tape Library (VTL) systems, the DD400 Enterprise Series uses proprietary Capacity Optimized Storage technology to compress the backup data to an average of one-twentieth of its original size, enabling a major reduction in physical storage volume. For long-term data storage, the cost per capacity is comparable with tape storage media. For disaster recovery, the system supports efficient remote data replication via a WAN, making it a viable substitute for tape when used as a backup/recovery system.

Product features are as follows:

(1) Proprietary Capacity Optimized Storage (COS) technology compresses backup data size to an average one-twentieth of the original size, providing cost per capacity comparable with tape storage media.
(2) Scalable systems with usable capacity for backup ranging from 15 to 233 TB
• Standard: (weekly full backups + daily delta backups): 15 to 83 TB
• Redundant: (daily full backups): 55 to 233 TB
(3) Throughput: 160 to 290 GB/hour

Offering outstanding capacity, throughput, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, the DD400 Enterprise Series is a Capacity Optimized Storage (COS) system for disk-based backup/recovery storage for use ranging from enterprise data centers to individual branch offices.

The DD400 Enterprise Series has been certified by several backup software packages for major corporations, and can be installed easily without changing the existing enterprise system environment.

By adding the DD400 Enterprise Series to the lineup of products it handles, Tokyo Electron is seeking to offer customers more secure and cost-effective backup storage.
